Thiruvananthapuram: The city police on Thursday arrested three men who carted 125kg ganja in luxury cars from Andhra Pradesh . The arrested persons were identified as Unnikrishnan , 33, a resident of Vedivechankovil; Sajeev, 26, a resident of Meppukada, Malayinkeezhu; Subhash, 34, a resident of Rajaji Nagar, Thycaud . Kazhakkoottam police arrested them with the assistance of the special action group against organized crime.
Narcotic cell assistant commissioner Sheen Tharayil and team have been pursuing leads to nab the gang in the wake of the recent ganja related arrests in the city. The gang was under police surveillance for the last few months.
The ganja was brought in two cars. The police created a traffic snarl at Kazhakkoottam national highway and intercepted the cars. The vehicles were also seized. Unnikrishnan was identified as the leader of the gang. He is an accused in several cases, including smuggling of spirit, ganja peddling and other criminal cases.
He also has cases registered in Andhra. Sajeev, the other accused has cases for murder, bike theft in Valiyathura, Museum and Mannanthala police stations.
Kazhakkoottam SHO Praveen JS, SIs Midhun, Jinu, Thulaseedharan Nair, Ashokan S, CPOs Baiju and Prabeen, special team members Yasodharan , Arun Kumar, ASI Sabu, senior civil police officers Saji Kumar, Vinod, Lajan, Manikantan were part of the team who arrested the gang.
