City traders meet Union minister, share problems

Ludhiana: A delegation of city businessmen met Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Vijay Sampla during his visit to Avon Cycles Ltd. on Monday and discussed several issues concerning the industry.

Avon Cycles Ltd. chairman Onkar Singh Pahwa said, “Several issues were discussed with the minister, including the problem of traffic jams on Delhi Road.

Taking prompt action, Sampla directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to conduct a meeting with the businessmen and concerned departments to find a solution to this problem.”

Businessman Gurmit Singh Kular said that the complexities of the no-objection certificate requirement by the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) was also discussed in the meeting. “CGWA has set March 31 as the deadline for accepting NOCs while getting an NOC is a daunting task due to the many formalities required for the same. So, we have demanded that the procedure be simplified to facilitate the industry.”

Secondly, we also requested the minister to exempt micro and small units from the NOC requirements as the usage of water in such units is much less, said Kular.
