Class XII student abducted, murdered by school 'friends' in UP's Bijnor

BIJNOR: In a case of rivalry among two groups of school students going horribly wrong in Bijnor , a Class XII student was abducted and stabbed to death by his inebriated ‘friends’ and thrown into a canal.


Local police arrested three youngsters on Sunday for murdering 18-year-old Deepanshu Kumar whose body was recovered from Bhoreki canal in Najibabad on April 23.

The deceased and his friend had allegedly thrashed some youngsters from the rival group and the latter was waiting for an opportunity to settle score. Deepanshu was abducted on April 19. All the accused are aged between 18 and 20 years.

Five days later his body with stab wounds was recovered from the canal and a probe was initiated. A murder weapon and Deepanshu’s mobile were recovered from the three suspects, now arrested and charged while another accomplice, Ritul Kumar, is still at large.

Bijnor superintendent of police (SP), Sanjeev Tyagi, said, “Deepanshu went missing on April 19. A missing case was registered in Najibabad police station. His stabbed body was found in a canal on April 23. A team was formed and it was treated as a murder case.”

“The police on Sunday received a tip off and arrested one of the suspects Harsh Verma, a resident of Adarsh Nagar colony in Najibabad. Harsh confessed of his crime during interrogation. He told the police that he and his three colleagues stabbed him [Deepanshu] to death,” Tyagi added.

Sharing more details, he said, “The police also found that the accused persons were addicted to drinking and they were in an inebriated state on April 17 when an argument broke out between Harsh and his friends - Manish alias Raza, Shubham Malik and Ritul Kumar - on one side and Deepanshu and Sudhanshu on the other. They were all good friends and belonged to a colony in Najibabad. Deepanshu and his colleague thrashed Harsh and his colleague in the market. So, Harsh and his group wanted to take revenge.”

The Bijnor SP also said, “On April 19, Deepanshu was standing outside a Najibabad hotel when Harsh and his friends plotted against him. They tricked Deepanshu on the pretext that they wanted to sort out their differences at a party in Harsh’s house. Deepanshu went to Harsh’s house on a bike when the latter and his group of friends - Ritul, Shubham and Manish - stabbed Deepanshu to death and put his body in a sack, and threw him into a canal.”

The police have arrested Harsh, Manish and Shubham while Ritul is at large. “Ritul will be arrested soon,” Tyagi added.
