Clearance for 4 all-woman police stations

Thiruvananthapuram: The government gave clearance to set up four new all-woman police stations in the state. The four new police stations will begin operations at Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts, where there are no women police stations at present.

There will be 76 posts in the four stations, with each station having a strength of 19.

Of this, 20 posts are newly created while the remaining 56 are through redeployment. Each station will have a circle inspector, a sub-inspector, five senior civil police officers, 10 civil police officers and a driver. Then redeployment will be from the district women’s cell and reserve battalion.

State police chief Loknath Behera instructed the concerned district police chiefs to find an appropriate building for the women’s police station and inform the headquarters at the earliest. At present, there are 10 all-woman stations functioning in the state in Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur city, Thrissur rural, Malappuram, and Kannur. The first all-woman police station in the country was opened in Kozhikode on October 27, 1973. It was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
