#ComicBytes: 'Avengers: Endgame' and the recent comics that inspired it
03 May 2019

It has been a week since its release, and Avengers: Endgame is well on its way to becoming a cult classic.

While it is well known that the main storyline of the film is influenced by Jim Starlin's The Infinity Gauntlet, it borrows plot points from several other Marvel comics, most of which were released recently.

Read on to know more about them.

The most controversial comic turned into a funny movie scene
Hail Hydra!

Captain America is the ultimate symbol of patriotism.

So, when he turned out to be a secret Hydra agent in Secret Empire, fans' enraged reaction was understandable.

In this story, he killed Black Widow (who also ended up dying in Endgame) and lifted up Mjolnir (but to cause mayhem).

In Endgame, the scene was played for laughs and showed the maturity of Captain America.

Captain Marvel in a new short-haired look

New Hairdo

Viewers were pleasantly surprised during the final fight of the movie when they saw Captain Marvel appear after the five-year time-skip in a new hairdo.

Her short haired look resembles the one in the 2016 comic Captain Marvel: Rise of Alpha Flight by Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, and Kris Anka.

Notably, Carol Danvers' current comics have her sporting a longer hairstyle.

Passing the mantle: Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson
New Captain

As Endgame neared its end, Captain America got the life he deserved, albeit in an alternate timeline.

He returned to the current timeline as an old man and passed on his shield to the new Captain, Sam Wilson.

This scene is an homage to the 2015 comic, All-New, All-Different Marvel, that featured younger characters filling the shoes of older, classic superheroes.

The hair-raising scene where female superheroes united against Thanos
A-Force

A certain scene during Endgame's final fight caught everyone's attention. It had a sudden teaming up of MCU's female superheroes against Thanos.

Valkyrie, Mantis, Wasp, Shuri, Okoye, Nebula, Gamora, Pepper, and Scarlet Witch helped Captain Marvel transport the Infinity Gauntlet and it was nothing short of a spectacle!

This was inspired by recent Marvel comics like A-Force and opened a whole world of possibilities.

Thor bands with the Guardians of the Galaxy
Asgardians

Avengers: Endgame gave satisfactory endings to Iron Man and Captain America. They probably won't feature in the upcoming MCU movies.

Thor, however, is not done with his adventures yet. Towards the end of the film, he joins the Guardians of the Galaxy and renames them Asgardians of the Galaxy.

This is the title of a recent Marvel comic series featuring Asgardians and the Guardians!
