Commission agent looted at gunpoint in Balod district

RAIPUR: A commission agent was looted at gunpoint by four masked men at the Durg-Balod state highway in Balod district on Saturday.

As per reports, the four youths trailed the unsuspecting agent's car while he was on his way to pay money to another trader in Gunderdehi.

The agent, Ravi Rathi (36) had Rs51 lakh with him.

The bike-borne masked youth intercepted the agent at a deserted place - just a few kilometres away from Khapparwada village - and looted him at gunpoint.

The bikers fled leaving Ravi behind.

Ravi Rathi, a resident of Mahesh Colony in Pulgaon Chowk, went to Pulgaon police station to file a complaint, but was told to approach Gunderdehi police station as the crime scene falls under their jurisdiction. He reached Gunderdehi police station where SHO Rohit Malekar heard his complaint.

Balod superintendent of police (SP) ML Kotwani reached Gunderdehi police station to review the case.

Police said, it appears that the looters were following the agent since Durg and cornered him as soon as they found an isolated spot. Police said, since the agent is still in shock he has not been able to give much information about the appearances and markers of the looters.

The agent's statement is also being scrutinized to check its veracity.

As of now police are trying to procure CCTV footage from nearby areas to zero in on suspects. Gunderdehi police is yet to register an offence as the agent is still being questioned, said police.

Meanwhile, an alert was sounded in Balod, Arjunda, Ranchirai and Pulgaon police station to nab the accused.

Further investigation is underway, said police.
