Complete works in Sultanpur Lodhi by Sept-end: Chief secy

Sultanpur Lodhi: Reviewing preparations for 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in the historic town, Punjab chief secretary Karan Avtar made it clear to the officials that all the ongoing works must be completed before September 30.

Chairing a meeting to review the preparations of the mega event here at office of the market committee, the chief secretary, accompanied by commissioner Jalandhar Division B Purusartha and inspector general of police Naunihal Singh said the celebrations during the mega event would start from November 5 and holy city would witness huge rush of devotees till November 15, so all the ongoing development works needed to be completed before September end.

He said any sort of callousness would not be tolerated at any cost. “The commemorative events must be a spectacular show for which every officer must perform their duty zealously,” he said.

The chief secretary said any sort of inordinate delay in execution of work was unwarranted and undesirable. He also said that besides ensuring prompt execution of work, the officers must also make sure that the work was conducted as per the highest specifications of quality. In a big bonanza for the residents of Sultanpur Lodhi , he said Bebe Nanki Memorial University College for Girls would start professional courses like BCA and BCom from July 1, adding that this would provide an opportunity to girls from the region to have an access to quality education.

Avtar said three tented places to facilitate around 40,000 pilgrims would come up in around 280 acres of land in Sultanpur Lodhi. He said special arrangements would be made to ferry the pilgrims via rail and road route to the Gurdwara Sahib. Avtar further said fencing of Kali Bein would be done at 2-km area to avoid any sort of mishap.
