Cong likely to declare names for 10 LS seats in Guj today

Gujarat Congress zeroed in on names for 10 different Lok Sabha seats on Tuesday after the screening committee meeting in Delhi. The shortlisted names will be presented before the Central Election Committee which is likely to finalise the names today, said sources.

According to sources, the names of Himanshu Patel (Ahmedabad West), Jagdish Thakor (Patan), Naresh Maheshwari (Kutch), Soma Patel (Limbdi), Lalit Vasoya (Porbandar) and C J Chavda (Gandhinagar) may find a place in the second list for Gujarat.

The screening committee meeting was postponed from Friday to Tuesday. Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda and Leader of Opposition in Assembly Paresh Dhanani had presented names of potential candidates on the remaining 22 seats of Gujarat during the meeting.

Post two hours of elaborate discussion with the chairman of the committee K C Venugopal and other senior members Ahmed Patel and Rajeev Satav, single names on 10 different seats have been finalised. However, the names will be proposed to Central Election Committee which is likely to meet today (Wednesday) evening. Once the names are approved it is likely that party will release the names today itself.

Following the screening committee meeting, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Chavda said, "The meeting went off well and we have been able to zero in on single names on 10 different seats."
