Congress alleges double voting in Idukki

IDUKKI: Congress Idukki district committee will file complaints with the Election Commission and the state chief electoral officer (CEO) over double voting in Idukki. Congress leaders alleged that Tamil Nadu natives have cast double votes in border areas of Idukki in favour of the LDF candidate. As per unofficial data, nearly 25,000 double votes were cast in the border areas of Udumbanchola, Devikulam and Peermade taluks, they claimed.

DCC general secretary Senapathi Venu said, “We are collecting the details of double votes in the border areas. Then, we will file a complaint to Idukki district collector, CEO and Election Commission.”

“As per our preliminary analysis, nearly 7,000 double votes have been cast in Udumbanchola taluk alone. Plantation workers from Tamil Nadu have cast votes in Kerala and Tamil Nadu in this Lok Sabha election,” Venu added.

Subramanyan, a native of Khajanappara near Rajakkad said, “I have a voters’ list which shows the double votes in the border areas. I will file a detailed complaint to the district collector on Tuesday. Voters from Tamil Nadu were brought in vehicles by political party leaders.”

Meanwhile, Idukki district collector H Dineshan said that he did not get any complaint regarding double voting in border areas.
