Constable shoots self with service revolver in Moradabad, critical

MORADABAD: Sanjeev Balyan , 40, a head constable with the Uttar Pradesh Police posted at Nagfani police station allegedly shot himself into his head with his service revolver while on duty on Monday evening.

Hearing gunshot, police personnel reached the spot and found Balyan lying in a pool of blood.

Superintendent of police (city) Ankit Mittal told mediapersons, “A Dial 100 head constable, Sanjeev Balyan , attempted to commit suicide using his service revolver. He is critical and doctors have referred him to Merrut medical college.”

Mittal added, “Police have launched an investigation. We have his mobile phone with us and are examining his call details.”

Meanwhile, senior police officials visited the spot and seized his service revolver with four live cartridges, but no suicide note was found.

According to police sources, Balyan shot himself while speaking over his mobile phone.
