Construction work affects 10 long-route trains

Ludhiana: As many as 10 long route trains running to and from the national capital arrived late by several hours at Ludhiana railway station due to ongoing construction work of limited height subway, including laying down of new railway lines on the Amritsar-New Delhi route here on Sunday, which irked passengers waiting for them on different platforms.

Trains coming from far-off places like Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata, and Bihar arrived late by six to seven hours. The worst affected train was Himgiri Express from Howrah to Amritsar, which arrived seven hours late at 3am instead of 8pm the previous night. The second worst affected train was Lohit Express, which arrived six six hours late at 1.15pm instead of 7am, while Tata Muri Express from Tata Nagar to Jammu Tawi arrived late by six hours at 11.15am instead of 5.15am.

Passenger Jaswinder Kaur, waiting for Howrah Express, said: “The problem due to late arrival of trains is at the same stage as in winter, but railways did not take any preventive measures, which is annoying. The rail ministry should upgrade the rail traffic system, so that in future, this problem does not ruin a passenger’s travel plans.”

Station superintendent Ashok Salaria stated: “Construction work is meant to upgrade railway network on the Northern Railway division, and as such, trains coming from Uttar Pradesh and Kolkata arrived late by several hours, but railways have managed everything properly, and made passengers as comfortable as possible.”
