Cop sniffs ACB trap, flees after taking bribe

JAIPUR: Getting a whiff of the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s ( ACB ) trap, a constable of Haranwada police station in Baran district fled after accepting the bribe of Rs 22,000 late on Friday night, even as sleuths during a subsequent search at the SHO’s house found Rs 2 lakh.

The ACB official said that while constable Anad Ram fled from the spot, the role of Haranwada SHO Dhan Raj Singh is suspected too.

“We had received a complaint from one Neeraj Meena of Kadiya village on Thursday that cops from Harnwada police in Baran and Gangrar police station in Chittorgarh came to his house and alleged that his uncle Phool Chand was booked by Gangrar police in narcotics case. The constable demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh to remove Phool Chand’s name from the FIR,” an official said.

Meena told the tainted constable that he could not arrange Rs 20 lakh and settled for Rs 6 lakh. “Meena approached ACB and filed a complaint. We verified his complaint and laid a trap to arrest him while accepting the bribe. On late Friday night, as soon as the cash was paid to the constable, he sensed the presence of the ACB and fled from the spot,” an official said.

The ACB units went to the SHO’s house and conducted searches during which cash to the tune of Rs 2 lakh was found.
