Cops from Etah thana perform 'kanyadan' of BPL girl, gift her Rs 11k

AGRA: Continuing their efforts to project an image of men in khaki as friends of public, Pilua police of Etah district on Thursday night conducted the “kanyadan” of a 19-year-old, Brijesh, of Bhadwas village.

According to station house officer Maharaj Singh Bhatti of Pilua police station , policemen decided to chip in for the wedding after someone told him that local villagers of Bhadwas were making small contributions for the wedding as the girl’s family could barely make ends meet.

Brijesh’s marriage was fixed with Santosh but her family did not have the means to bear the expenses. Her father, Manveer Singh, had died a few years ago, due to prolong illness, leaving behind his wife Kamlesh Devi to fend for herself and three children.

“Brijesh along with her mother and two teenage brothers works in farm field to eke out a living. Therefore, we decided to help the girl with a small monetary support and also conducted her kanyadan ,” said Bhatti. “The entire staff of Pilua police station together contributed Rs 11,000 and blessed the newly-weds.”
