Cops register case after bulls made to fight in Ambala Cantt

Ambala: Police on Tuesday registered a case against unknown persons for organising an event where some buffalo bulls were made to fight in Dussehra ground in Ram Bagh road area of Ambala Cantonment on the eve of Govardhan Puja.

The case has been registered at Ambala Cantonment police station on the complaint of Naresh Kadiyan, a resident of Delhi and a master trainer at Animal Welfare Board of India.

In his complaint, Naresh stated, “On Monday, some locals organised an event where one leg of a pig was tied with a rope and is thrown in front of a cow and a calf. It is clearly seen that the cow rams the pig under its hoof and the people are enjoying the same. Hence, an FIR must be lodged against the organisers and participants. “

A case under sections 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 268 (public nuisance), 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc., of any value or any animal of the value of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3 (duties of persons having charge of animals) and 11 (cruelty) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered.

“We have registered a case and the accused will soon be nabbed. The matter is sensitive and related to religious beliefs, therefore, we are proceeding cautiously. So far, no arrests have been made,” said inspector Narender Singh, SHO, Ambala Cantonment police station.

In 2014, the Supreme Court had banned the bull racing and another such tradition known as Jallikattu in south India, after complaints of animal cruelty. It is notable that a similar case in 2014 was earlier registered in Ambala Cantonment police station for this practice.
