Cops seize party drugs worth Rs 400 crore in Manipur's Thoubal district

IMPHAL: Police seized 40 lakh World is Yours (WY) tablets, the estimated value of which in the international grey market is about Rs 400 crore, from a mini truck in Thoubal district early on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, police personnel led by SP (Thoubal) S Ibomcha Singh, intercepted a mini truck at Phoudel Keirambi Mathak Leikai around 1am.

Members of two local civil organisations helped the police in the seizure.

"We first arrested the truck driver, Mohammad Hussain, (35), and later caught three others from different places. One of them, Kyaw Kyaw Naing, a man from Myanmar, caught at the gate of Imphal airport," Ibomcha said. The Myanmarese national is suspected to be an international drug dealer.

The other two were identified as Ayub Khan (41) and Md Abdul Razak (35) from Yairipok in Thoubal. They were allegedly facilitating the smuggling of the narcotic substance. The driver belongs to Thoubal Wangkhem Muslim Mamang Leikai.

"We found the psychotropic drugs hidden inside the mini truck loaded with carpets," Ibomcha said, adding, "Members of Phoudel Keirambi Youth Club and Phanthoibi Women Welfare Association were present during the search operation."

WY, more popular as party drugs, is usually used by youngsters. Police also found Naing carrying Rs 60,000, some US and Mayanmarese currency notes and two mobiles.
