Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Chennai hotel employee tests positive for Covid-19 in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A 24-year-old man, who landed here on Monday evening in a Chennai-Coimbatore flight, has tested positive for Covid-19 .

The man is an employee of a star hotel in Chennai. He is doing room service in the hotel.

The man was transferred to ESI Hospital for treatment. Officials said he was asymptomatic.



Public health department tested 364 people at the airport on Monday. Results of 330 samples came, and only one person tested positive. Results of 35 more samples are awaited.

However, Coimbatore’s covid-19 case count is likely to remain nil, because the new has been added to Chennai’s count as the man is believed to have been infected there. This is the second patient to test positive in Coimbatore but get added to Chennai’s count.

On Sunday, a woman travelling by road from Chennai to the Nilgiris tested positive after her sample was drawn on the Coimbatore border. She was shifted to ESI Hospital and is also under treatment.
