Coronavirus: Odisha total mounts to 876 as 42 returnees test positive

BHUBANESWAR: Forty-two more persons—all recent returnees from other states—tested positive for Covid-19 in Odisha , raising the number of infected people in the state to 876. Fifty-seven more recovered, raising number of cured persons from the infections in the state to 277.


State capital Bhubaneswar, which had witnessed spurt in positive cases in March-April, became corona free with no more active cases left.

The city had reported 50 positive cases and two deaths. While 45 had recovered earlier, three more got cured on Monday. Jagatsinghpur, which has reported five cases, too has zero active cases as all five infected in the district recovered, the health department said.

Other cured include 40 from Ganjam, four from Mayurbhanj, two from Balangir and one each from Sundargarh , Balasore and Kendrapada .

Kandhamal joined the list of affected districts with two persons testing positive for the virus. The other new positive cases include 16 from Jajpur, 15 from Ganjam, three each from Kendrapada and Nayagarh and one each from Boudh, Cuttack and Khurda . Among the new positive cases 16 have returned from Surat, 10 from West Bengal while the rest returned from Maharashtra, Karnataka , Tamil Nadu, Telengana.
