Cousins print fake notes to get rich fast, caught

Graduates living in Thaltej printed the notes using printing machines, used it to buy stuff from shops

Two cousins who planned to make it big by printing fake currency notes using paper printing machines and circulating it in the city was foiled when they got caught by the Crime Branch.

The accused were identified as Uday Prajapati and Meet Prajapati from Patan who have been living at a relative’s place in Bhaikakanagar, Thaltej, for quite some time now. On Tuesday, Crime Branch officers were tipped off that two persons on a motorbike were carrying fake currency notes from Thaltej to Shilaj. The two were intercepted with the fake notes.

The cops found more fake currency notes, printing machine and other things along with eight bottles of foreign liquor and 10 cans of beer at their house. Both Meet and Uday are graduates.

While Meet earlier worked with a private company, Uday was involved in business. In January, the two hit on the idea of printing fake notes in Rs 200 and Rs 500 denomination to earn a quick buck.

According to ACP (Crime) B V Gohil, in the post-lockdown scenario, the duo would venture out at night, visit shops in the western part of the city and pay for the purchases with the fake notes.

ACP Gohil added, “They would buy groceries and other thing. They also planned to print Rs 2,000 notes also per evidence found in their computer. The two were also involved in selling alcohol. We are investigating how much of these fake notes were put into circulation by the accused.”
