Covid-19: 1.4 lakh quarantined in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum till date, says report

JAMSHEDPUR: Ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus , East Singhbhum district administration has put 1,41,593 people who came from outside the district into institutional quarantines, shows a data report. Of the total, 1,592 arrived from abroad while the others came from various states. The district has an approximate population of 15 lakh.

The report also mentions that the highest number of people (20,025) have been put in camps run by Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) followed by camps run by Mango civic body (8,879).

In the rural areas, highest number of people have been quarantined at camps in Baharagora (5,060). The high number may be attributed to the fact that Baharagora lies at the tri-junction of Jharkhand , Odisha and West Bengal and migrants returning from these neighbouring states were kept at these camps.

Meanwhile, the administration is now allowing Covid positive patients to remain in home quarantine with the total number of such cases at 59 on Sunday which rose to 90 the next day. Health department on Monday, after scanning requests for home quarantine, granted permission to 31 asymptomatic patients. The permission was granted after a special team of the department visited houses of the patients and checked if all protocols and safety measures can be followed at the residence. The team then granted permission for home isolation.

Teams formed to monitor those in home quarantine are also carrying out surprise checks. Those found violating the protocols are being dealt with strictly, sources said. In Mango area, FIRs have been lodged against four persons who violated the protocols. Ravindra Gorai, who is heading a special team, said, “The four had come from other states and were put under home isolation, but during checks it was found they were not abiding by the rules. FIRs have been filed."
