COVID-19 cases drop below 400 in Hyderabad, 1587 recover in Telangana

The number of COVID-19 cases dropped below 1,300 in Telangana after a long time. On Sunday, 1,256 people tested positive for the infection there. Low testing is the reason behind the sudden drop as the officials collected 11,609 samples. In total, they have conducted 6,24,840 tests.

The latest increase in the number of COVID-19 patients has taken the tally in the state to 80,751.

1,587 people recovered from the infection on Sunday, which has taken the tally of cured patients to 57,586. 10 people succumbed to the infection. The death toll in the state stands at 637. The recovery rate in Telangana remains on a higher side as 71.31% of people have been cured so far.

There are 22,528 active cases in Telangana. 15,789 people are under home/institutional isolation. The results of 1,700 tests are awaited. The number of cases reported on Sunday would have been higher if more tests were conducted.

Telangana now has 11,532 vacant regular beds, 4,496 vacant oxygen beds and 1,838 vacant ICU beds.

Talking of districts, the number dropped below 400 in Hyderabad after a long time. The worst-hit city in Telangana, Hyderabad has been accounting for over 500 cases for a while now. There was a time when it was also reporting nearly 700-800 cases regularly but the officials have done well to control the situation there.

No other district reported over 100 cases in Telangana. 86 people tested positive for the infection in Rangareddy while 74 tests returned positive in Sangareddy. Karimnagar witnessed 73 new COVID-19 cases. Warangal Urban and Nalgonda witnessed 67 and 58 new cases, respectively.

The number of cases is likely to go up if more tests are conducted. The officials aim to conduct 40,000 tests per day soon. The state government has increased the testing capacity in the last two months.
