Covid-19 claims 10 more lives in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: The district again witnessed 10 Covid-19 deaths, including five of women, on Sunday, when 224 of Ludhiana and 22 from outside tested positive here.

The health department said a 53-year-old diabetic man from Guru Arjan Dev Nagar died at GTB Hospital, while a 65-year-old man from Dhandran Road, who had hypertension and coronary artery disease, died at CMC.

A 50-year-old woman from Model Gram and a 64-year-old man from Subhash Nagar, who had kidney disease, blood pressure and diabetes, passed away at city hospitals.

A 19-year-old woman from Machhiwara, who also had a heart problem, a 56-year-old diabetic man from Jawaddi Khurd, a 50-year-old woman from Civil Lines, who had diabetes and blood pressure, died at DMCH. A diabetic woman of 46 years from Tibba Road died at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. A man of 81 years from Dugri, who had respiratory problem, died at Deep Hospital. A 68-year-old woman from Mohalla Jagdish Nagar, who had diabetes, BP, coronary artery disease and hypothyroidism, died at GND Hospital in Amritsar.

Health department officials said with these 10 deaths, toll tally of the district has risen to 168 and 44 from outside died here.

Civil surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga said of the pending reports of two days, 108 were reported positive, of which 103 belonged to Ludhiana, one each to Kapurthala and Jalandhar and three to Himachal Pradesh.

He added that of the 138 positive reports received from private hospitals and laboratory on Sunday, 121 were from Ludhiana, three from Jalandhar, two each from Patiala, Amritsar, Sangrur, Fardikot and one case each from Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Barnala and Himachal Pradesh.

Health department officials said of the 224 patients reported positive from Ludhiana district on Sunday, 68 were from flu corner, 71 were contacts of positive cases, 26 from OPD, nine police officials, eight healthcare workers, one undertrial, one domestic traveller, five pregnant women, three pre-operative cases, 26 from tracing process and six severe acute respiratory infection cases.

They added that till Sunday, number of cases from Ludhiana district was 5,032 and that of outsiders was 587.

The civil surgeon said 998 samples were sent for testing on the day. Deputy commissioner Varinder Sharma said there were 1,696 active cases in the district and at present, 4,776 were under home quarantine. “On Sunday, 387 persons were sent for home quarantine,” the DC added.
