COVID-19: Community adds immunity boosters to nutrition kit for pregnant women in Andhra Pradesh town

Hyderabad: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, youth in Peddapuram town of Andhra Pradesh have come up with a unique initiative to supply immunity boosters to pregnant women. This goes with the nutrition kit supplied by the government to the future moms.

Youth of Mana Peddapuram group, which works for enhancing the health standards of the people and image of the town, have distributed fruits, dry fruits, eggs, and a variety of food items to the pregnant women along with nutrition kits.

The women were also trained in practicing yoga and pranayama.

Thirty women from Dalit colonies were covered in the first batch. ICDS East Godavari district project director Sukha Jeevan Kumar has supported the initiative.

"Government is giving them nutrition. We thought it is essential to provide the women immunity boosters during the pandemic," said Naresh Pedireddi, who heads the group.

He said Love to Serve, an NGO has partnered with the youth group for covering all the pregnant women in the town under the scheme named 'Matrutvam' (Motherhood).

Mana Peddapuram group caught the attention of the nation when it introduced a rice-for-plastic scheme to rid the town of the plastic.
