Covid-19: Odisha's cure rate goes up as 90 more recover

BHUBANESWAR: The state is witnessing a steady increase in the number of recoveries from Covid-19 as 90 more got discharged from hospitals on Friday even as 63 people tested positive for the virus. Two Covid-19 patients also died on the day, but the health department said their deaths occurred due to comorbidities.


While active positive cases stand at 827, the number of those cured went up to 977, helping the state's recovery rate to further improve to 56.70% while mortality rate decreased to 0.4%.

Those who recovered and were discharged on Friday include patients from Jagatsinghpur (23), Jajpur (22), Bhadrak (21), Ganjam (15) and Cuttack (3) besides two each from Khurda and Sambalpur and one each from Balasore and Nayagarh.

The new positive cases include 12 from Khurda, besides Jagatsinghpur reporting 11, Dhenkanal (9), Nayagarh (7), Balangir (6), Ganjam (4), three each from Balasore and Cuttack, two from Sundargarh and one each from Sambalpur, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur and Puri. With this the total number of infected rose to 1723. The health department tweeted that a 72-year-old man from Balasore district , who was suffering from blood cancer and other chronic ailments, had tested positive for Covid-19. "He has succumbed to chronic ailments. As per the death audit report, the cause of death is chronic myelogenous lukemia," the health department said.

Similarly, a 42-year-old man from Khurda district, who was suffering from chronic liver disease and Hepatitis B, had tested positive for the virus. He also succumbed to chronic ailments. As per the death audit report, the cause of death is decompensated liver disease with Hepatitis B, the health department said.

A government statement said a total of 1088 people are in hospital isolation. The government said number of temporary medical centres in the state has gone up to 16,444. These can quarantine 7,38,621 people.
