Covid cases surge after lifting of lockdown in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: There has been a surge in Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya with 33 persons testing positive for the virus, taking the total number of active cases to 599 on Saturday, two days after the total lockdown in the Shillong urban area was lifted.

Director of health services Dr Aman War said that out of the 33 new cases, 27 are from East Khasi Hills which includes 16 civilians, 8 armed forces personnel and 3 BSF men.



One person from West Garo Hills, three persons from Ri-Bhoi, which includes 2 Armed Forces personnel and one civilian, and one each from West Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills district also tested positive.
