Covid kills 93 in 4 days of August

With 1,020 new cases, Gujarat crosses 65k-mark

25 more patients succumb to Covid-19 in Gujarat on Tuesday; death toll so far reaches 2,534; with 105 fresh cases on Tuesday, Vadodara becomes third district after Ahmedabad and Surat to report over 100 cases in a single day

As many as 25 patients succumbed to Covid-19 on Tuesday. Death toll due to Covid-19 in Gujarat in just four days of August has reached 93 and is all set to cross the mark of 100 today. The toll is also higher than that during the first four days of July when there were 79 deaths. A total of 1,020 new cases were reported across the state, taking its overall tally to 65,704 and that of August to 4,266.

Surat reported the maximum cases, 245, followed by Ahmedabad with 153 cases. Vadodara became the third district to report more than 100 cases in a single day, with 105 getting infected in 24 hours. Its previous peak was 98 on Monday. Out of the 245 new cases, the city reported 194 and rural parts of the district 51.

Besides these three districts, Rajkot reported 88 cases, Bhavnagar 55, Junagadh 37, Gandhinagar 28 and Jamnagar 22.


Dahod and Kutch reported 23 cases each while there were 22 in the Panchmahals and 20 in Narmada. There were 18 cases in Amreli, 16 each in Bharuch, Botad and Gir-Somnath, 15 cases in Mehsana, 13 each in Navsari and Sabarkantha, 12 in Mahisagar, 11in Kheda and 10 each in Patan, Surendranagar and Valsad. Other districts reported cases in single digits.

Of the 25 deaths in the state, 11 were in Surat, followed by 4 in Junagadh. Ahmedabad reported 3 deaths, Jamnagar 3 and Vadodara 2 while Rajkot and Bhavnagar reported 1 death each. The death toll so far has reached 2,534. There are 14,811 active Covid-19 cases in various hospitals of Gujarat. The state reported the discharge of 898 Covid-19 patients from various hospitals on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Gujarat BJP president CR Paatil’s brother Prakash Paatil tested positive for Covid-19. Surat BJP president Nitin Bhajiyawala and his wife too tested positive for the infection and are in home quarantine.

14 new micro-containment areas in Ahmedbad

The AMC on Tuesday added 14 new spots to its list of micro-containment areas in the city and removed 22 from it. Four of the new areas are in northwest, 3 in south-west, 2 each in central and west zones and one each in south, north and east.

West, north-west zone on par

Both north-west and west zone of Ahmedabad city had 536 active cases as on Tuesday morning. The number of total active cases was 3,045 till then. While the west zone has areas like Navrangpura, Naranpura, Paldi, Vasna, Ambavadi, Ranip, Sabarmati and others, the north-west has Bodakdev, Gota, Thaltej, Sola, Chandlodia and others. South west with areas like Prahladnagar, Satellite, Jodhpur, Sarkhej, Bopal-Ghuma, etc had 465 cases. South zone that has areas like Maninagar, Behrampura, Kankaria, Isanpur, Ghodasar and othersaccounted for 437 cases, followed by east with 420 cases, north with 363 cases and central with 297

ITI Chandkheda closed till Aug 12

Applicants who have chosen the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Chandkheda as their centre for taking the learning licence test will have to wait for a little longer. The insitute has been closed from August 4 to 12 as one of its employees tested positive for the Covid-19 infection.
