Crocodile kills minor boy in Bagaha block

BAGAHA: A 12- year old boy Vivek Kumar Uraon of Dhirauli village under the Laukaria police station area in Bagaha block of West Champaran district was killed by a monstrous crocodile while he was trying to cross Haraha river on Thursday evening.

Though the boy was rescued by few daily wagers working at a nearby bridge while he was being dragged into the river by the crocodile and was taken to Bagaha sadar hospital by Laukaria police, he was declared brought dead there.



Locals said the boy was going to meet his mother who was working in a paddy field across the river. Bagaha forest range officer Sanjiv Kumar admitted that the boy was killed by the crocodile. “The boy’s family will be paid a compensation of Rs 5 lakh after the autopsy is done,” he said.

Sources said that similar incidents happened near Piparasi, Ratawal, Belahawa, Naurangia and other riverine areas over the past few months in which many people have been injured.
