CWC raids Good News Shelter Home in Choudwar; 42 children rescued

Choudwar: The district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Child Protection Officer recused 42 children after conducting raid on a shelter home, being run by Good News India in Choudwar on Friday. The raid was conducted following reports that the shelter home was allegedly operating illegally despite the centre being closed down at government level in 2018.

It is pertinent to mention here that 22 child care institutions were sealed across Odisha following sexual abuse allegations at Dream Centre Shelter Home at Beltikiri in Dhenkanal in December last year.

“I have no idea as not a single child was staying here as the institute was closed in December last year,” said Deepak Parmanik, official of the shelter home.

All the 42 rescued children have now been shifted to a government-run shelter home in Choudwar while all arrangements will be made to ensure that they do not face any problems in appearing examination, informed CWC chairperson Mandakini Jema.

“The director of the shelter home had rehabilitated around 50 children in houses of some villagers and we have rescued 42 children,” said Jema.
