Cyclone Fani's wrath: Angul escapes

Angul: According to the district administration, so far there have been no reports of human or livestock losses in the district. However, some places witnessed house and crop damages. Officials will visit all the affected villages and assess the losses. A report would be prepared and submitted to the Collector for compensation, said a source in the administration.Much to the relief of Angul residents, Cyclone ‘Fani’ did not do much damage here despite the district being located in the ‘red zone’ of the storm’s probable path.Crop and house damages were reported from Angul, Banarpal, Chhendipada, Kaniha and Pallahara blocks.

Especially, banana farmers suffered huge losses in these blocks due to the heavy wind, it was learnt.Residents here continue to face water shortage owing to intermittent power outages.

Meanwhile, the officials have started distributing polythene sheets. Also roads are being cleared by the removal of trees which were uprooted Friday. Work is also going on to restore the power supply and the administration is sending water tankers to various localities.“The district administration is leaving no stones unturned to bring back normalcy in the district. Things would come back to normal within two-three days,” said an official.So far, the administration appears to have done a commendable job on staying alert, alerting and rehabilitating residents that minimised the risks of casualty to a great degree.Residents from flood prone areas had been evacuated to shelter homes where cooked and dry food items were served. They have now started returning to their homes.It should be stated here that one person had died while acres of crops were damaged during ‘Titli’. While there was not much impact during ‘HudHud’, crops were damaged and a person had died during Phailin.
