Cyclone Maha to trigger rain in Rajasthan

JAIPUR: Cyclone Maha , which is expected to make landfall in Gujarat later this week, will also bring rain and thundershowers in some parts of Rajasthan.

Jaipur Met office on Tuesday said cloudy conditions would prevail in eastern Rajasthan and thundershowers are expected in these places in the coming days.

Meanwhile, temperatures took a dip across the state with Sikar recording 13.5°C, the coldest in the state.

Sikar was followed by Churu which recorded 14.6°C, Ajmer 16.2°C, Sriganganagar 16.8°C, Udaipur 17.9°C, Bikaner and Kota 18.2°C each, Jaisalmer 18.4°C, Jodhpur 18.6°C and Barmer 19.9°C.

IMD said the cyclone was expected to enter Gujarat on Thursday.

“In Rajasthan, some places including Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Banswara, Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar and Bharatpur are likely to get mild showers. The cyclone will not hit the state majorly, but some areas will certainly get thundershowers,” said a Met official.

People in Jaipur woke up to the coldest morning of the season with the minimum temperature clocking 18°C. In the evening, cold winds swept across the city. Weathermen said the city would witness cloudy skies on Wednesday with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 30°C and 18°C, respectively.

“Ideally for winters, the minimum temperatures should be 15°C or below,” a Met official said.
