District SP Priti Chandra informed TOI that along with Ram Lakhan, the police arrested his chief aide Bachan Singh Gujjar, Lakhan Gujjar and Deshraj Gujjar.

“Ram Lakhan was inducted into the Rajasthan police’s top 25 list of most wanted criminals following his ever-expanding list of crimes. Gujjar first shot into notoriety about four-months ago when he and his acolytes thrashed a 30-year-old driver before forcing him to consume urine. They also shot a video of the ghastly act and uploaded it online to terrorize residents of Karauli and nearby areas.

Involved in 25 serious offences ranging from murder, attempt to murder to extortion, kidnapping etc, Ram Lakhan Gujjar was sought by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh police. “His reign of terror extended from Karauli, Bharatpur, Dholpur in Rajasthan, to Morena in Madhya Pradesh and even in Agra in Uttar Pradesh,” an official added.

The accused ruled the roost in ravines of easten Rajasthan. “During winters the gang would enter houses at gunpoint, demand food and clothes and spend the night before leaving in the morning,” the official claimed, adding that no village was ready to share whereabouts of the accused with the local police due to fear of reprisal. “We had been keeping a tab over their movements. Gujjar was a much feared criminal amongst local. He stayed in ravines to evade the police,” SP Priti Chandra said.

The Karuali police further said that with easy availability of Madhya Pradesh made guns, an entirely generations of dacoits have joined the trade in ravines.
