Dad, disabled teen found dead at home with suicide note
Kanksa: A trader and his 14-year-old differently abled daughter were found dead at their home in Kanksa block of West Burdwan on Wednesday evening.
Preliminary police investigation suggests Nripendu Chakraborty (50) drowned daughter Neha in a water tub, near which her body was found in the bathroom, before hanging himself near the stairway of their house in Bamunara area of Kanksa.
Police have also found a suicide note undersigned “Ashohai Pita (helpless father)”.
According to relatives, Chakraborty had been depressed because the Covid lockdown had dealt a severe blow to his business and he was finding it increasingly difficult to bear his daughter’s recurring medical expenses. Neighbours said around July 13, Chakraborty’s wife took ill and she decided to go and stay with her father in Durgapur. Since neighbours hadn’t seen Chakraborty or Neha in the past couple of days, they informed relatives and police. “We suspect the man killed his daughter and then himself. However, we can conclusively say what happened and how after post-mortem,” a police officer said, adding that the bodies had been sent for autopsy.
