D'Arcy Short breaks BBL record as umpire robs the former Rajasthan Royals player of his century

Australian batter D’Arcy Short continued his brilliant form in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2018-19 as he smashed an unbeaten 96 off 57 deliveries to strengthen Hobart Hurricane’s spot in the top of the league table. With the smashing innings of 96, Short broke a BBL record and became the first player in the history of the tournament to have four scores of 90s.

Short tonked four sixes in his blazing knock, which also made him the second fastest player in BBL history to reach the mark after West Indian opener Chris Gayle.

However, Short was unlucky to miss his century as in the 18th over of the match, the umpire gave away an incorrect decision and ruled one boundary as four leg byes. If the decision would have gone in favour of Short, then he might have been enjoying a ton on Tuesday. But, Short wasn’t too bothered about missing on his century as he said he can’t get angry at the umpire and was happy to bounce back after a defeat.

“It was the umpire's decision (the four leg byes),” Short said after the match while adding, “I can't get angry at him for it. But it was good to bounce back after a loss and get another convincing win.”

Recently, Short was dropped for the Australian ODI squad but he answered critics in some fashion with a scintillating knock as he helped Hobart Hurricanes defeat Melbourne Stars by 59 runs. Earlier, Short was released by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals as the Australian players are expected to miss a huge chunk of the cash-rich tournament due to the upcoming ICC World Cup, which starts soon after the IPL ends.

Meanwhile, Hobart Hurricanes made a four-point gap in the BBL league standings with 12 points to their name and are above Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades, who all are on eight points in the BBL standings.
