Bhubaneswar: Friday morning turned a nightmare for two families in the city after coming face to face with armed miscreants, who not only snatched their ornaments but injured five persons during the loot bids. While one incident was reported from Sailashree Vihar, the other took place in the vicinity of Nandankanan.
In Sailashree Vihar incident, five assailants in two motorbikes confronted one Gayatri Muduli while she was walking to yoga class early in the morning in phase 7 of Sailashree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits. Though Gayatri dodged them in the first attempt, she became a victim soon after the miscreants confronted, threatened and looted gold ornaments. “I was on a call with my daughter during the walk and she sensed trouble in the conversation between me and the miscreants and informed her dad. Soon my husband arrived with a few other people but the miscreants didnt spare them too,” Gayatri recollected.
As per Gayatri, the looters had sharp weapons, wielded guns and attacked her husband and those who had gathered hearing Gayatri’s shouts. They also pelted stones at anyone who protested, she added. However, before the milee went out of hand, the miscreants fled but not without injuring a few people.
“We went for first aid and then filed a complaint with Chandrasekharpur police station,” said Bibhu Das, neighbour of Gayatri, who also sustained injuries in the incident. Police has begun investigation with the help of CCTV footage from near the crime scene.
In a similar incident this morning, another ex-army officer was also attacked with sharp weapons by armed miscreants when he was on morning walk with his wife near Nandankanan. The miscreants not only looted them but also injured the officer with sharp weapons and fled after looting gold ornaments from his wife.
