DC Asks CWC To Play A Proactive Role To Protect The Rights Of Children In Need Of Care

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today called upon the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to play a proactive role for protection of child rights in an effective manner.Presiding over a quarterly review meeting in the district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said it was the need of the hour to safeguard the rights of children.

He said that CWC aimed to provide a safe and secure environment for the overall development of children in need of care and protection.Mr Sharma said that the CWC is also the final authority to dispose off cases for the care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of the children as well as to provide for their basic needs.The Deputy Commissioner also asked the District Program Officer Mr Amarjeet Singh Bhullar to look into the problems being faced by a Child Care Institution (CCI) in getting birth certificates of the children in the Institutions.
He assured the centre that the problem will be resolved at the earliest. The Deputy Commissioner also directed the education department to start a vigorous campaign for ensuring that no student was left behind from school education in the district. The Deputy Commissioner was informed in the meeting that CWC had carried out around 70 inspections of the residential facility centres of the children in the need care and protection during last two quarters under Justice Juvenile Act in Jalandhar.
Further, the CWC had also disposed off around 75 cases of shelter for the children in the need. The cases of adoption were also discussed in the meeting.On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Mr Kulwant Singh, District Education Officer Mr Ram Pal, Deputy DEO Mr Anil Awasthi, CWC Chairman  Mr Satinder Mohan Singh and others were present.
