Death toll reaches 4 in Karnataka's Dharwad district

DHARWAD: Dharwad district is slowly limping back to normalcy and rehabilitated people are slowly returning to their houses as rainfall is receding since the past three days.

However, death toll in rain-related cases reached four with rescue teams recovering the body of Basappa Patil of Kallapur . He was missing since the past three days.



A total of 187 animals died and 413km of roads have been severely damaged in the district where the administration has so far disbursed compensation to the tune of Rs 2.2 crore to the owners of 5,000 damaged houses. More than 8,000 houses in the district have been damaged due to floods. The administration also disbursed Rs 3.3 lakh compensation to those who lost animals.

While there were 48,000 people in 106 relief camps on Saturday, their number considerably reduced on Sunday. The number of people in relief camps is expected to reduce further in the next two days, said additional deputy commissioner Ibrahim Maigur.

The situation in 21 flood-hit villages, including Alnavar , Kalle, Kabbenur, Harobelawadi, Uppinabetageri, Inamhongal and Ingalalli, is returning to normal.
