Deaths climb to 88 while Tamil Nadu's Covid-19 cases continue to be shy of the 7,000 mark

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported almost 7,000 cases for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday when the number of Covid-19 cases touched 6972 in the State.

However, this is marginally lower than the number on Monday which was 6993, the highest so far.

The deaths in the State went up to 88 on Tuesday as opposed to 77 on Monday.

This takes the total tally of deaths in the State to 3659.

State capital Chennai reported a further decline on Tuesday with 1107 people testing positive for the infection. On Monday, the district which has been steady for about two weeks, reported 1,138 cases.

Other districts, however, continued to report increases.

Virudhunagar led the pack with 577 cases while Thiruvallur followed with 486 cases on Tuesday.

Chengalpet, Madurai, Tuticorin and Tirunelveli had over 300 cases while Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Thanjavur, Theni and Thiruvannamalai reported more than 200 cases.

With this, the total number of cases in the state has now touched 227,688, according to the media bulletin.

There was a slight dip in testing on Tuesday with 59,584 people being tested for the novel Coronavirus. As many as 61,342 persons were tested on Monday.

Further, 4,707 patients were discharged, taking the count of recoveries so far to 166,956.
