Dehradun: SDRF recovers 4 bodies from Yamuna, 2 still missing

DEHRADUN: Rescue teams on Tuesday morning recovered four bodies from Yamuna river and two people are still reportedly missing after a pick up vehicle fell into the river near Hathiyari power house in Vikasnagar area of Dehradun district late on Monday.


Two teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) comprising 14 personnel equipped with rafts and sonar system have been pressed into the search operation, which was restarted on Tuesaday morning after being stopped on Monday night.



The deceased have been identified as Vikky, 21, Lakhiram, 45, Saina Devi, 38, and Gainda Das, 45, all residents of Chakrata. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Pravesh, who was rescued from near the accident spot on Monday night was admitted to hospital at Vikasnagar.

“According to eyewitnesses, there were seven passengers inside the vehicle which was on its way to Vikasnagar from Ghagta village. Search operation is still underway to trace two missing people,” said Deepshikha Rawat, district disaster management officer of Dehradun.

SDRF officials claimed that the search operation is being conducted in the 15-km stretch on Yamuna river between Hathiyari bend and Dakpatthar.

Meanwhile, in another accident that took place near Mussoorie, a private car carrying five people fell into a gorge on Barlowganj Road on Tuesday evening.

On receiving information about the mishap, police personnel from Mussoorie police station reached the spot and launched rescue operation, which turned out to be a difficult one due to the depth of the gorge.

All five people reportedly sustained serious injuries in the accident and were shifted to a nearby hospital by the rescue teams.
