Dehradun: Two sanitation workers suspended

DEHRADUN: Two Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) sanitation supervisors were suspended for two weeks on Monday after DMC commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, while on inspection, found areas under their jurisdiction in what he described as "a pitiable state."

Pandey said he was shocked to see blocked drains and the filth on both sides of EC road after conducting an inspection of Aragarh Chowk area in Dharampur on Sunday.

The suspended officials -- Krishan Pal and Rajesh — were tasked with monitoring the cleanliness of Dalanwala and Race Course areas.

As part of the special cleanliness drive, DMC supervisors and safai inspectors are ensuring that areas across the city remain clean. Speaking to TOI, Pandey said, “DMC is focusing on maintaining cleanliness in every corner of the city. We had already warned all supervisors and inspectors against filthy streets. As the Char Dham Yatra has begun, cleanliness of the city becomes even more important.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the suspensions, Satendra Kumar, secretary of Nagar Vikas Karamchari Mahasangh, said, “Supervisors across the city have been working very hard. Every supervisor has been assigned five wards. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to inspect every ward carefully.”
