Delhi cab driver 'murdered'

Meerut: An Uber driver on his way from Delhi to Bulandshahr was allegedly murdered on Wednesday.

Prima facie, Sahil Khan, the driver, died due to asphyxiation, police said. His body was found early Wednesday on the Gulaothi Road in Sikandrabad.

Vikas Kumar, an employee of the car owner, managed to trace Khan’s body and the cab using the GPS installed in the vehicle.

“We have sent the body for post mortem. Investigations are currently on. Robbery doesn’t seem to be the motive as nothing was stolen, not even the vehicle. We will arrest the killers within 24 hours,” said N Kolanchi, SSP Bulandshahr.

Khan had picked up unidentified passengers from Delhi and was travelling to Bulandshahr in the car. He did not go through the formal booking process on Tuesday night.

Hailing from Gorakhpur, the deceased driver completed around six weeks with the prominent transport company in Delhi.

Speaking about the incident, Vikas (who found Khan’s body in the car) told TOI, “The last time we spoke with him was around midnight. He had texted that he was driving and would call later. By 2 am, his mobile phone was switched off.”

“I managed to trace the vehicle with the help of the GPS on Wednesday morning and found him lying in the car’s backseat. He was choked to death with a scarf,” Vikas added.

The SSP Bulandshahr added, “The driver has been identified. He was a resident of Gorakhpur. The car’s owner has been called here and we will try to find the people who hired this vehicle.”
