Delhi gives Udaipur House to Rajasthan

Jaipur: Rajasthan government has finally got possession of the sprawling Udaipur House in old Delhi after a 72-year wait. The house, the official residence of the erstwhile Maharana of Udaipur, was in the possession of the Delhi government. The decision comes after an understanding reached between Rajasthan and the Delhi governments recently.

According to government sources, the Delhi government had handed over possession of the property to the resident commissioner of Rajasthan in New Delhi a few days ago. Now, the government must take a call on how best to utilise the prime property spread over 12,000 square metres. The property was built during the era when Luteyn’s Delhi was being designed after British rulers asked the Udaipur royal family to build a mansion in Delhi like other princely states.
