Denied party ticket, BJP's Tezpur MP to form new party

GUWAHATI: Denied party ticket sitting MP from Tezpur, Ram Prasad Sharma said that he will form a new party which will bring together old leaders of the party.

Stating that he is not a Chowkidar but employee of the people, Sarmah while talking to media persons in Guwahati on Saturday said that there is no place for old timers in BJP now.



Sarmah is denied party ticket and BJP has given ticket to state’s labour minister, Pallab Lochan Das.

Sarmah said that new party will include leaders who were neglected. Last week Sarmah resigned from BJP after his name was not sent in the panel of names for the party ticket.

Already BJP in the list released on has axed out four sitting MPs. Out of the nine candidates declared by BJP for 14 lok sabha constituency in Assam, the saffron party has not given ticket to four sitting MPs.

Union minister of state for Railways, Rajen Gohain is likely to be axed out from Nagaon. A senior BJP leader who does not want to be named told ET, “Rupak Sarmah the MLA from the Nagaon Sadar assembly constituency is all set to get ticket.”

Gohain had declared he will not contest polls till he is cleared by the court regarding the allegation of rape and molestation of a woman.

There was a buzz that his wife Rita Nath Gohain might get Saffron party ticket. The BJP leader said, “The party is likely to field young face and Gohain’s wife will not get ticket.”
