Depressed after result, Durg girl jumps off running train

RAIPUR: Depressed over her final year exam result, a BSc student ended her life by jumping off a running train in Durg district.

According to police, Khushbu Gupta’s body was found on the railway tracks at Baghera on Friday, hours after her parents had reported that she was missing. She had failed in three subjects in BSc final year.

Ever since July 17, when her results were out, she was visibly disturbed and was showing withdrawal symptoms. She was not even talking to her family members. On Thursday, she had dinner and was not found on her bed the next morning. After searching for a few hours, her parents reported the matter.

On returning home, 19-year-old Khushbu’s parents found a suicide note pasted on a wall insider her room. In the note, she wrote that except for the mathematics paper, she expected to to pass in other subjects.

“ I have decided to end my life as it’s difficult for me to bear the pain of failing. If I had attempted to end my life here, you people would have saved me. That is why I am going to Allahahbad to die,” she wrote in the note, said police. Her parents immediately informed police and headed for the railway station. She was not found either at the Durg station or at the Bhilai powerhouse.

Finally, it was at the Mudipar station where her parents were told that a girl had jumped off a local train. A few labourers working on the track said that she was alive for a few minutes after coming under the wheels, but succumbed soon after.

Her parents broke into screams after identifying her, said police, adding that they were verifying the suicide note and an investigation was underway.
