Despite patch-up, Vijay Sampla still missing from BJP's poll campaign in Hoshiarpur

JALANDHAR/HOSHIARPUR: Even as the BJP leadership has been able to pacify Union minister of state Vijay Sampla after he was denied the ticket, the most prominent Dalit face of BJP in Punjab has been missing from public campaigning in Hoshiarpur parliamentary constituency.

After bursting out against the party for leaving him out of the ticket race, he had expressed complete loyalty to BJP three days later, saying that he would work to get Narendra Modi back as PM.

Haryana chief minister M L Khattar, Haryana finance minister and Punjab party affairs in-charge Captain Abhimanyu, Union minister Mahesh Sharma had brokered peace between Sampla and Som Parkash, BJP candidate from Hoshiarpur.

Sources in BJP said Sampla has not been involved by the Parkash camp in the campaigning. “It is the local candidate or his/her core team which involves the senior leaders in the campaigning and draws a schedule for them after mutual discussion. However, after the peace meeting, Sampla has not been involved in the campaigning,” said a party leader close to Sampla.

He said Sampla has been going to the party meetings or public events where central leaders were coming from campaigning and has been involved in coordinating with them. He has been more active in Gurdaspur constituency.

Sampla said he was going to the meetings or events wherever he was being asked by the party. He, however, claimed that he had been meeting party workers in Hoshiarpur also to bring back Modi as PM. “Everybody in the party is working to get Modi back and so am I,” he quipped.
