DGP slams Alwar cops for lax policing

Jaipur: Amidst widespread criticism of police following the Behror lock-up incident, DGP Bhupendra Singh severely criticised Alwar police on Saturday afternoon during a meeting.

Sources said Singh pulled up the cops for their lackadaisical approach in policing and asked them to stand ready for any unprecedented challenge.

He also asked officials to shed their callous approach in policing. Talking to TOI, Singh said, “Business cannot be as usual after the Behror incident.”

“For past several days, I was planning to visit Bharatpur range and Alwar district, but my visit coincided with the incidents that took place at Behror police station. I am aware of several ills that plague these regions, but it is time to find a solution,” Singh told TOI.

DGP Singh was posted as IGP (Bharatpur) from 2005 to 2006 and had introduced several measures to curb inter-state gangs operating in the area.

The officials had blamed the alleged collusion between Behror police station staff and criminals which reportedly led to the raid by gangs. There are about eight to nine cops posted in the thana who are said to be locals of the area.

“I am completely aware of all events but the main focus remains on the gang that executed the attack on Behror police station. But I have stated categorically that things have to change in Alwar. There are border police stations which need to function properly,” he said.
