Dharwad TTI for Women excluded from admission list

DHARWAD: Despite chief minister H D Kumarswamy’s order that the Government Teachers’ Training Institutes proposed to be closed from this academic year should not be closed, the department of public instruction has excluded the six institutions from the list of TTIs which will be admitting the students for D El Ed course for the academic year 2019-2020.

Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha (KVVS), which had opposed the move to close down the 132 year-old Training College for Women in Dharwad , has pointed out this lapse on the part of Commissioner of Public Instruction and has urged the officials concerned to follow the CM’s directive on the issue.

The DSERT, citing paucity of students for D El Ed courses and financial burden, had in April last week ordered closure of six Government TTIs in the state, including the TTI for Women in Dharwad. This had evoked strong protests from academicians and social organisations. Bending to the pressure, CM Kumarswamy had ordered that the six institutions should not be closed and status quo should be maintained. However, the Commissioner of Public Instruction, Bengaluru, through the centralised enrollment unit has invited applications from the teachers’ training course aspirants under government quota in Government TTIs. The notification has given a list of Government TTIs where the admissions are available, but the list does not contain the six TTIs which the DSERT had recommended to be closed. The candidates are given time from May 15-28 to apply for admissions.

KVVS secretary Prakash Udakeri said the action of Commissioner of Public Instruction is in violation of the chief minister’s direction. He has urged the authorities concerned to issue another notification, including the names of six TTIs that have been left out from the earlier list within 24 hours. He has warned of agitation if the authorities fail to comply with CM’s direction.
