Diocese of Amritsar to visit Valley, will hold meetings with religious heads

Amritsar : Diocese of Amritsar, Church of North India, will send a delegation to visit Srinagar and review the functioning of its four schools running in the valley and hold meetings with religious heads as well as with parents of school students to help normalise the situation.

Bishop of Amritsar, PK Samantaroy, who will lead the delegation to Valley, told TOI on Wednesday that civil society could make a much needed and desirable impact to help normalise the situation post scrapping of special status given to Jammu and Kashmir .

Established in 1880, the Tyndale-Biscoe and Mallinson society under the management of Diocese of Amritsar runs four schools in the valley including Tyndale-Biscoe Boys School , Mallinson Girls' School, both in Lal Chowk , The Kashmir Valley School, near Kashmir airport and Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson School, Tangmarg.

Former chief minister of J&K, Omar Abdullahs' grand father and father Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah , are the alumni of the Srinagar branch of Tyndale Biscoe school.

Stating that government agencies couldn’t bring the situation to normalcy alone, Samantaroy said that the delegation plans to hold meetings with various religious heads in the valley and have joint programmes to discuss their issues and win their confidence.

He said they also intend to hold meetings with few parents of the students to give a positive message to them and ask how the schools could contribute to help them bring life back to normalcy.

“The idea is to give an emotional support and and give a listening ear to them, listening itself is a part of healing and we will be discussing their issues “ said Samantaroy.
