Diverse group of professionals to be part of IIM-Vizag's first executive MBA programme

Visakhapatnam: The Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam (IIM-V) is all set to roll out its first batch of postgraduate programme for experienced professionals (PGPEx/executive MBA ) from October 19. A total of 36 professionals have enrolled in the two-year programme.

While applicants must have a minimum of three years’ work experience, one third of the first batch has at least 10 years of professional experience.

While 23 candidates are from an engineering background, eight are from the sciences. Two candidates have specialised in liberal arts. The batch has 10 female candidates. Four candidates are central government employees and eight are from the central public sector. Twenty-four professionals are from the private sector.

Speaking to TOI, director, IIM-Visakhapatnam, Prof M Chandrasekhar said that the programme has been designed with a mix of core and elective courses along with an international immersion programme and a capstone project. “Rajeev Kapoor, who earlier served as the secretary to the government of India and is an alumnus of IIT-Kanpur and IIM-Ahmedabad, is one of the board members of IIM-V. He will launch the programme and give the inaugural address on October 19,” said Prof Chandrasekhar.

Prof Chandrasekhar added that the programme will provide candidates with management education of a global quality. “The major objective of the programme is to help participants enhance their managerial competencies and leadership skills for professional growth and development; and through that advanced learning, contribute more effectively to their organisations,” he said.

The director said classes have been scheduled for evenings and over weekends and the programme offers a ‘learn while you earn’ opportunity to professionals based in and around Visakhapatnam. “The week-long international immersion programme comprises interaction with CEOs on global business best practices,” said Prof Chandrasekhar.
