Dombivli railway station foot overbridge closure causes major inconvenience to commuters

KALYAN: The closure of foot overbridge (FOB) towards Kalyan side at Dombivli railway station since a year causing a heavy rush on the middle narrow staircase of the foot overbridge at the railway station during evening hours.

The rush on the FOB is such dangerous that it can be fatal too. The commuters travelling at the railway station are mostly using middle FOB of the station as it has good access for east and west connectivity.



Local MNS leader Rajesh Kadam on Thursday twitted a video of massive crowd of commuters struggling while climbing on the staircase.



Kadam requested the Central Railway to complete foot overbridge work towards Kalyan side to avoid Elphistone bridge stampede like situation.


Kadam's video was later retweeted by senior NCP leader Supriya Sule who tagging Railway minister Piyush Goyal and Central Railway demanded to complete work at the earliest to avoid any untoward incident. In her tweet, Sule said, "The repair work of the bridge towards Kalyan side at Dombivli station is going on. The staircase currently used by commuters is extremely narrow. It is essential that repair work of the bridge must be completed at the earliest in order to prevent any accidents".



After Sule's tweet, Central Railway replying to her said, "Old FOB is now fully dismantled and construction of new FOB is on fast track which will be completed in the next five months. Presently two FOBs are available for the convenience of the passengers".
