Dumka hospital suffers as outsourced workers' strike enters 3rd day

Dumka: Work in the Sadar Hospital here was hit for the third consecutive day on Wednesday because of the ongoing strike by outsourced employees engaged in different departments.

The agitating workers, numbering about 24, have been asking their employment agencies to clear their salary dues lying unpaid for the past eight months.

At least of them are auxiallary nurse midwives (ANMs).

"Our employers have forced us to take such a tough stand by refusing to pay our wages for a long time," Shweta Hembrom, an ANM, said. “It’s very difficult for us to run our homes without salaries,” she added.

Three outsourcing companies — Balaji Private Limited, Birsa Security and Service, Settlement Rider Security Services — are currently entrusted with the job of providing supporting staff to Sadar Hospital as well as other government hospitals in the district.

Civil surgeon (Dumka) Anant Kumar Jha said the grievances of the agitators are ‘genuine’ but their strike has affected the functioning of the Sadar Hospital.

Jha said, “ We have apprised the outsourcing companies of the situation. Hope they will end the deadlock in a day or two.”
