ECI informed about vacant Panaji seat

PANAJI: The Chief Electoral Office of Goa has informed the Election Commission of India about the vacancy created in the constituency of Panaji following the demise of chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday.


It is up to the ECI to decide whether to hold the Panaji bypoll along with those in Mandrem, Manpusa, Shiroda and the Lok Sabha elections, additional chief electoral officer Narayan Sawant stated.

If the Panaji byelection is declared, it will mean making arrangements for additional EVMs and VVPATs in the constituency and assigning an additional polling officer at each of the polling stations.
